The celebrity accepting the donation on behalf of the charity was the actress Elizabeth Estensen, who plays the Woolpack pub landlady Diane Sugden in the ITV soap Emmerdale. These seven staff were part of a group of thirty from the Society who raised £3,000 when they climbed the Three Peaks, which are Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

The team was drawn from across the Society’s branch network, with representatives from the Barnsley, Beeston, Bradford, Dewsbury, Holbeck, Horsforth, Huddersfield, Kendal, Manchester, Sale and Yeadon Branches.

The Bradford hospice is one of 10 Marie Curie Hospices in the UK, which offer specialist care for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. This £3,000 donation will pay for 150 hours of nursing care.

Bev Nugent, Area Development Manager for Leeds Building Society said:

"It was a great opportunity to visit the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford and see what the money raised through our 30-strong three peaks team will go towards. The three peaks challenge was tough, but it was made all the more worthwhile to see the great cause it will help.

"We all enjoyed meeting Elizabeth Estensen, and we joked that seeing Diane Sugden behind the bar at the Woolpack would certainly have been a welcoming site for all the team when we reached the top of the third peak!"

Jane Edgeley, Marie Curie Cancer Care Bradford Hospice Manager said:

"We were delighted to welcome the delegation from Leeds Building Society to present the donation to us. This money will make a real difference to patients and their families with £3,000 paying for 150 hours of nursing care.

"It is only through generosity such as this that we can continue to give people with terminal cancer the choice of being cared for in the safety and comfort of their own homes, surrounded by their loved ones and friends."
