So far, the team has raised an impressive £2,107, with many donations still being made.
Accompanied by 28,500 other cyclists, the team set off on their journey at 7am from Clapham in London through the bustling Capital and then out onto country lanes.
Unfortunately, the weather took a turn for the worst.
Katie McDonald, New Homes Coordinator, said:
“Rain driving into our faces made conditions quite tough, particularly when we reached Ditchling Beacon, the third-highest point on the South Downs. Getting up that hill was a real challenge but it was worth it when the sun came out after the final 8 mile down-hill path to the finish line.” One of the team took a tumble from her bike but despite this, they all managed to cross the finish line at Brighton's famous seafront. “There was a real sense of achievement and team spirit felt by all and the atmosphere was incredible.” added Katie.
Mr Cox expressed his gratitude to all those from Waterfords that had entered, professing the last time he completed this challenge was over 20 years ago. He commented:
“CWSNF is a fantastic organisation which has done some wonderful things for local children. Having supported them in the past, we recognise that unlike many other charities, it operates with no admin expenses and all monies raised are utilised to support the children or their families. I’m proud of our achievement but even prouder that the monies raised will go to such a worthy cause.”
