Has commercial property got the right foundations for a recovery?

Last year equities and bonds delivered excellent returns and commercial property clawed back some of the losses that investors in the asset class had suffered in 2008. However, most commentators agree the economic recovery remains fragile. Given this backdrop, what are the prospects for the commercial property market going forward from here?

Many businesses are themselves struggling, making them understandably nervous about committing to expansion making the lettings market very difficult and cost cutting is very much to the fore in UK PLC, putting downward pressure on rents. A tough market indeed!

In this month's Fundamentals, Rob Martin, Head of Property Research & Strategy at Legal & General Property will give his views on the outlook for UK commercial property and explain how he believes, even in this difficult market, skilled property fund managers will be able to deliver good returns.
