"The property market may be cooling but it seems as though living on a spooky street could be just the ticket if you’re looking to sell this Halloween"

Estate and lettings agent, Barrows and Forrester, has revealed that homes sold on Halloween-themed road names have increased by an average of 24% over the last year, making them far from frightful for those considering selling up this Halloween.

Barrows and Forrester analysed sold price data for property sales to have completed across 13 Halloween-related road names in 2023 and how this market performance compares on an annual basis.

The research shows that so far this year (Jan to Aug 2023 - latest available), Halloween homes have sold for an average of £383,000, 24% more when compared to the same period in 2022 when the average sold price sat at £308,221.

This means that despite cooling market conditions sending chills down the spine of many home sellers, those on Halloween-related roads have little to be scared of when it comes to the value of their homes.

The biggest increase has been across roads with ‘Dead’ in the name, with a huge 175% increase year on year, up from an average sold price of £510,000 to £1.4m,

‘Spider’ related road names have also seen a notable increase, with the average sold price climbing by 58% annually, while those with ‘Trick’ in the same have seen an uplift of 33%.

Other Halloween-themed road names to have seen an annual uptick in sold prices include ‘Blood’ (14%), ‘October’ (12%), ‘Broom’ (11%) and ‘Night’ (3%).

However, it’s not all good news for those living across Halloween-themed road names, with properties on roads with ‘Hell’ in the name seeing a 32% reduction in sold prices over the last year.

Other spooky streets that have failed to see a boost in value this Halloween include ‘Grave’ (-13%), ‘Crow’ (-11%), ‘Witch’ (-8%), Sweet (-7%) and Lantern (-1%).

Managing Director of Barrows and Forrester, James Forrester, commented:

“The property market may be cooling but it seems as though living on a spooky street could be just the ticket if you’re looking to sell this Halloween.

"While not all Halloween-related road names have enjoyed the same uplift in sold prices, those living on roads with the likes of dead, spider or treat in the name are going to be far from shocked when they come to put their house on the market.”
