Michael will today give his first public speech as President in the House of Commons. Alongside Michael's appointment, Louise Brooke-Smith will take office as President Elect. Louise will be the first female incumbent of the position in the institution's history.
In addition, Martin Brühl becomes Senior Vice President. Robert Mayhew and Chris Fossick will continue in their roles as Vice Presidents, and Amanda Clack is newly appointed to the position of Vice President.
Bill Gater continues as RICS Honorary Treasurer and Rob Mahoney continues in his role of RICS Honorary Secretary.
Elections for the new presidential team were held at the RICS Governing Council Meeting in March 2013. The successful candidates will now set about leading the development of the organisation's vision and strategy, along with RICS Governing Council.
Michael Newey, incoming RICS President, said

A personal highlight was the opening of the new School of the Built Environment in Delhi, the first of its kind in India. The School will prove pivotal to establishing the future of the profession right across the world."
Alfred Russel Wallace awarded Honorary RICS Membership
RICS Governing Council began with a dinner to honour great British evolutionary, Alfred Russel Wallace who is best known for independently conceiving the theory of evolution through natural selection, which prompted Charles Darwin to publish his own ideas in the On the Origin of Species. Wallace began his career as a land surveyor and throughout 2013 RICS is supporting many initiatives as part of the Wallace 100 campaign to raise the profile and public appreciation of his achievements.
The well-known comedian and TV personality, Bill Bailey presented a posthumous RICS Membership to Wallace to Dr. George Beccaloni, Curator at the National History Museum.
Dr. George Beccaloni said:
"Wallace's ability to interpret complex spacial information, developed whilst he was a land surveyor, was key to his later ground-breaking work on evolution and biogeography. Myself and Wallace's surviving family are delighted that the RICS has given him posthumous honorary membership as this serves to highlight the importance of his early professional training."

Michael Newey BSc FRICS FCIH MAHI
Michael Newey is the group chief executive of Broadland Housing Group based in Norwich, UK. Broadland is a social enterprise group, including a not-for-profit landlord owning 4800 homes in Norfolk and North Suffolk, a training, employment and support services charity, and a residential developer.
In late 2008, Michael undertook a three-month secondment as a special adviser to the Minister of Housing in Victoria, Australia. He has been a regular visitor to the Australian affordable housing sector since 2004, working with both government and housing providers.
Before joining Broadland, Michael was the Executive Director of Anglia Housing Group and before that the Group Development Director of Flagship Housing.
Michael is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and a Member of the Australasian Housing Institute.

Louise Brooke-Smith BSc (Hons) DipTP FRICS MRTPI
A qualified Urban Land Economist and Chartered Town Planner, Louise has gained a wealth of experience in planning and development in public and private sectors both in the which has offered professional advice on town planning, land use and development matters to blue chip clients across the UK since 1994. Additionally, Louise has been retained as a visiting lecturer at various academic institutions.
Within RICS, Louise has been a member of the West Midlands Regional Board since the early 1990s (elected as Branch Chairman for the 1999/2000 session), and represented RICS on the National Planning Forum between 1989 and 2002 where she held the position of Vice Chairman.

Martin Brühl BSc (Hons) FRICS
Martin is Head of International Investment Management at Union Investment Real Estate, a major German open-ended fund provider. In his role, he is in charge of property acquisitions and disposals in Asia, the Americas and the UK. Martin's background is in valuation and capital markets advisory and during most of his professional life he has worked for international consultancy firms, notably Cushman & Wakefield.
Within RICS, Martin was a board member of RICS Deutschland and a member of the RICS Valuation Faculty Board. In his current role he actively promotes the recognition of RICS standards and its model of professional self-regulation around the globe.

Chris Fossick BSc MBA FRICS
Since 2006, Chris has been the Managing Director, Singapore and South East Asia, for Jones Lang LaSalle. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Estate Management from the University of Glamorgan, he launched his career at Barclays Bank in London and was involved in the relocation of their Investment Banking Division's headquarters.
Later in his career, Chris became President and CEO of CBRE Japan, from 2003 to July 2006, building the business into one of their largest in Asia Pacific and becoming widely recognised as an industry leader in Japan's real estate market.

Robert Mayhew BSc (Hons) FRICS
Based in Moscow, Robert is the Executive Director within Colliers International's business in Russia, responsible for the Valuation and Consulting teams across the entire country. Robert began his career more than 20 years ago, joining the Valuation Department of Edward Erdman, which later became Colliers International. In 2001, Robert joined DTZ in Poland as Head of Valuation and subsequently worked as a Regional Director of Valuation for the company in Central and Eastern Europe.
Robert later returned to Colliers International to help establish the company's pan-European valuation team and later joined Jones Lang LaSalle as Head of Valuation and Strategic Consulting.Robert has considerable experience as a former member of RICS Russia & CIS from 2007-2010. Robert has been a member of the RICS Europe Board since 2009, of which he is currently Interim Chair.

Amanda Clack FRICS
Amanda is a partner at PwC leading Property, Real Estate and Construction for consulting. She also leads consulting across the South East of England, as well as Portfolio Management for PwC in a wide variety of UK and global clients.
She is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Fellow of RICS.
Amanda is immediate past vice chair of the Management Board; led the Clack Review on Election and Selection and also established the UK World Regional Board.
She has been an external examiner/lecturer and is a member of the Surveyors Livery Company.

Robert P Mahoney FRICS FBCartS
Rob Mahoney is acknowledged as one of the most experienced independent GIS consultants in Europe and was formally Principal of MahGeo with over 25 years' experience.
He was formally the UK delegate to Féderation Internationale des Géomètres (FIG) Commission 3; former Vice President of Comité de Liaison des Géomètres Européens (CLGE) and former member of UK Governments Geographic Information Panel under the direction of the Deputy Prime Minister and has represented RICS at the World Bank in Washington.
