HouseScan ranked 16 of the UK’s biggest housebuilders based on two factors, their total homes delivered in a year and the number of NHBC Quality Awards and NHBC Seal of Excellence Awards they achieved during the same year before awarding each builder a ratio based on the number of awards to homes built to see which was delivering the most homes, but also at the highest standard.
The figures show that Barrat currently ranks top. The latest annual figures show the builder delivered 17,856 homes in 2019. While this was the most of all housebuilders, they also clocked up a total of 108 NHBC awards, resulting in an applaudable 165 homes for every accolade awarded.
HouseScan ranks Cala as the second-best UK housebuilder. While they delivered a far lower number of homes when compared to most builders (2,171), they did pick up 13 NHBC awards in the process resulting in 167 properties delivered for every award achieved.
Redrow takes the bronze in HouseScan’s housebuilder line up, with 6,444 homes delivered and 38 NHBC awards secured, resulting in 170 properties built for every award achieved by the builder.
Taylor Wimpey (185), McCarthy and Stone (192), Bellway (234), Crest Nicholson (243), Miller (269), Berkeley (308) and Bovis (387) also rank within the top 10.
Harry Yates, Founder and Managing Director of HouseScan, commented: "The new build sector and housebuilders, in particular, tend to come under heavy fire where the delivery of homes is concerned, as well as the quality to which these homes are delivered.
"We see it as important that credit is given where it’s due and commend the UK housebuilders that are not only building the most but are doing so to a high standard.
"In this respect, there’s no better current industry indicator than the NHBC who physically inspect the performance of sites to put forward various accolades, shown below. So we believe that those achieving the most recognition in relation to the number of homes they are building is a very good gauge of overall industry performance."
