Oxfam, ActionAid and the EAF team up with Andrews for the festive season
Oxfam, ActionAid and the EAF all benefitted from significant financial support and manpower from Andrews in their early set-up days.
Andrews’ new promotional campaign, ‘Choose us, help them – it’s a fair trade’, encourages people to use Andrews services and in return the company will make a donation to charity on their behalf towards one of three projects.
A customer will need to either sell or let their property, or arrange a mortgage through Andrews to take part. Customers will be able to choose from one of three gifts:
- Feed a family by providing essential edibles through Oxfam
- Fund a chicken breeding programme in Malawi through ActionAid
- Help combat the causes of homelessness through a £10 donation to the EAF
Michael Robson, chief executive of Andrews, said:
“This campaign is a bit special to us because it helps tell a small part of the Andrews story, which is so unique. Not many agents can say they had a direct hand in founding some of the biggest charities in the UK, or can say that they have given over £5 million in charitable donations over the last 15 years.
"We know that a lot of people might be surprised by our story and may not believe it – but it’s true.
"We are very proud of the continued success of Oxfam and ActionAid, and our staff and customers are very proud of the current work that Andrews is able to fund and support with the EAF and other valuable projects.”
The three charities being supported all have histories deeply intertwined with that of Andrews.
Oxfam’s relationship with Andrews goes all the way back to the charities’ foundation in 1942 – thanks to Cecil Jackson-Cole, founder of Andrews.
He played a major role in turning Oxfam into the international charity that it is today, and his contribution was recognised by Oxfam with the unveiling of a blue plaque next to the Oxfam’s first charity shop in Oxfam in 2002.
ActionAid was founded by Cecil Jackson-Cole as a child sponsorship charity in 1972. It has now grown to a charity which helps more than 13 million people in 42 countries with their own fight against poverty.
The EAF was co-founded by Andrews’ chief executive Michael Robson in early 2008. The EAF have supported homelessness causes and made grants to organisations that specialise in this field, such as Shelter, Emmaus and Centrepoint.
Dame Barbara Stocking, chief executive of Oxfam GB, says:
“It gives me great pleasure that Oxfam are able to work alongside Andrews once again, and that we are able to renew our relationship in the same year that Andrews celebrate their 65th birthday and to help raise important funds for our work here at Oxfam.”
The new campaign, which will be promoted to customers in all of Andrews’ branches and through a range of advertising, asks customers to choose Andrews for their property needs and help a chosen charity – a fair trade.
