The capital value raised was the largest ever in a single auction held by Barnard Marcus, topping the previous record of £33m set October 2008.
The catalogue was also the largest offered since November 2008. Both figures underpinning a strong resurgence in property auctions and a general strengthening of market confidence.
Swift and competitive bidding from a packed auction room together with telephone bidding from those unable to attend in person helped to surge prices forward, with many lots far outstripping their Guides.
Chris Glenn, Divisional Managing Director for Barnard Marcus commented after the auction that “more and more buyers and sellers are turning to auction as their preferred route of buying or selling, and recognise that our unique blend of national marketing, supported through a network of nearly 500 group offices around the country provides us with one the largest pools of buyers in the UK. Our results, which speak for themselves already show substantial improvements on 2013 as we continue to grow our market share.
Having now settled in to our new premises at Sovereign House, King Street, Hammersmith, we invite clients old and new to pop in to learn more about property auctions and share in our continuing success."
£36.6m raised in record breaking auction
83% of the stock offered at The Grand Connaught Rooms in Central London had been sold by the end of the day.
