However, with the countdown well and truly on and the shoppers out in force, there is still chance to beat that bah humbug feeling which comes hand in hand with a seasonal move.
Introducing some careful planning and thinking ahead, say estate agents Harrison Murray, can increase the chances of keeping your festive spirits up!
10 top tips for a Christmas Move
1. Plan well ahead if you are using a removal company over the holiday period. The run-up to Christmas can be very busy and some companies might have staff shortages due to holidays.
2. Use your Christmas cards as a way of notifying friends and family of your change of address, and make double use of the cost of a stamp!
3. If you want to save on the packing, then why not think about buying gift vouchers as Christmas presents? And don't forget to label the Christmas decorations and boxes if you are planning to celebrate in your new surroundings.
4. Organise your packing well in advance – starting with the things that you are less likely to need straight away. Moving also gives you the chance to de-clutter and donate unwanted items to charity shops or appeals during the festive season.
5. Assuming you have a precise moving date, check the weather forecast well in advance if you can. Bad weather, snow and ice could have an impact on the removal company or your own efforts in moving boxes and belongings.
6. In all the additional excitement of the festive season, make sure that your valuables (including documents, passports ands jewellery) are kept in a safe and secure place – and that you remember where you put them!
7. If you are taking any outdoor furniture with you e.g. tables, chairs, BBQs, make sure these are clean and ready to go (and not covered in snow!).
8. The last thing you want to do is think about food shopping. Consider having an online order delivered to your new address and plan early as slots get booked up well in advance. Having a takeaway menu of somewhere close by could also be handy!
9. Moving home in winter could mean part of the process takes place in the dark so check you have a supply of torches and lightbulbs just in case.
10. Settle in quickly and start making your new house feel like home by putting up curtains (make-shift or otherwise) as soon as you are able. A few throws and cushions will make it feel cosy in no time.

However, with some consideration and planning, you can keep stress levels at a minimum and your spirits high – and think about celebrating Christmas in your new home."
